The edge of will.

By

The day carried a chill, the breeze ran cold,

Standing on the edge, my story unfolds.

The earth beneath me felt fragile, thin,

A line so narrow, where fear begins.

The view stretched wide, a breathtaking scene,

But the edge grew sharper, a fractured dream.

My feet moved forward, as if not my own,

Drawn to a silence I’ve never known.

A single step could rewrite the tale,

A thought could anchor or let me sail.

I stood between the now and then,

Caught in a moment beyond my ken.

Memories surged like a tidal wave,

Moments I’d lost, the ones I’d saved.

Laughter rang out, so vivid, so bright,

The warmth of love, the fire of light.

But pain was there, a shadowed hue,

The times I cried, the times I withdrew.

The ocean below roared loud, unkind,

Its depths reflected the storm in my mind.

“Stop, please stop,” I whispered, afraid,

Eyes wide open, my resolve swayed.

The cold was biting, the breeze was gone,

Where was I standing? Had I moved on?

The heart replied, This is the place,

Where you sought to find your grace.

I answered back, “Is this my peace?

The moment where the noise will cease?”

The mind rebelled, its voice a scream,

We were the best this world has seen!

The heart stood firm, its rhythm slow,

Let go, dear soul. It’s time to go.

The voices clashed, their battle loud,

Their arguments formed a thundercloud.

I silenced them both with a quiet plea,

“It’s too late now—let us simply be.”

The depths embraced me, dark and vast,

A place where echoes of pain won’t last.

No light, no sound, just a quiet song,

A tender hug where I belong and the end for my beautiful plea.

Tick-tick, tick-tick—

The alarm’s sharp cry,

A sudden jolt as time passed by.

Eyes wide open, I gasped for air,

The world returned, its colors rare.

Was this the last try that life would give?

A fleeting glimpse of the will to peace?

Or a gift from time, a whispered grace,

To find my strength in this fragile place?
